A very long week.
Chris | August 21, 2008 | 9:34 amIt’s been one hell of a week.
First and foremost - our house was burglarized on Wednesday last week. Two laptops stolen (with personal data on them both, which of course prompted frenzied password changes and financial information that had to be secured - seriously, do you have your browser store your passwords and login information for all your personal sites? Email? Banking? Insurance? Hell even your social sites, Netflix, Facebook, etc? Well not anymore.), Jewelry, cameras. The list goes on.
Yeah insurance will cover some some of it, but it won’t replace the heirloom jewelery from Court’s Mom or Granny.
And nothing will makes us feel less violated, except time. The sheer weirdness of having strangers in your house, it just makes my skin crawl. Though the new solid front door, the new alarm system and the new padlock on the garage door do help a little. Sleeping the first few nights was impossible, every little noise woke me and the dogs up. What are the statistics of burglars returning to homes they’ve broken into? Got to look that one up.
We’re thankful that whoever did this weren’t complete assholes. They didn’t trash the place and they didn’t hurt our pets and for that we’re grateful.
It’s classic; you think it’ll never happen to you. And talking to my neighbors, they say that they’ve *never* ( I mean like in over 30 years ) even heard of a home broken into, in our neighborhood.
Lucky us.
So, for the price of the two stolen laptops alone, I could have paid for all the security improvements long ago, and this, most likely, would never have happened.
Ain’t hindsight a bitch?
