Ok look I understand ( as well as I can ) the desire for a Zen approach to life; I get it. But jeez, could they have picked a better spokesperson than Myôgen Steve Stücky?
From today’s Chronic, a short piece on monks from the Tassajara Zen Mountain Center, out on the fire lines in the Big Sur area.

“Fire is not a stranger,” said Stücky. “It’s telling us to be here in accord with the reality of fire … we’re not really fighting the fire. We’re meeting the fire, letting the fire come to us – make friends with it and tame it as it reaches our boundaries.”

Make friends with it; yeah good luck with that… Stücky.

Brian Roberts, a professional yo-yo performer known as Doctor Popular, said he had to hack into his first-generation iPhone to download and develop games and other applications.

“I get all the applications for free right now,” he said. “It’s going to take some convincing for me to pay for them.”

Roberts said he isn’t going to buy the new phone unless he comes across a surplus of money. Not only would he have to buy another phone, but the AT&T service plan for the new phone also costs an extra $20 a month for the faster service.

Surplus of money, yeah. Sell some shit!
